Market Review
Janus Henderson Capital Funds plc / 30 June 2026 5
Overview Global equities, as measured by the MSCI World Index, rose by 9.9% in US dollar terms during the reporting period, which was marked by significant volatility. Markets sold off in January as the US said it would increase tariffs against European countries that opposed its plan to take over Greenland, although the proposal was dropped. In March, the escalation of conflict in the Middle East caused a slump in global stocks as surging oil and gas prices boosted inflation expectations and raised the possibility that major central banks would tighten monetary policy, potentially harming global economic growth. Equities then rebounded as a ceasefire largely held, despite occasional flare-ups in tensions, while the US and Iran later signed an initial peace deal. Shifting sentiment around artificial intelligence (AI) also caused volatility. Worries about technology companies’ huge investment in AI, along with anxiety about potential AI-led disruption to traditional business models, unnerved investors. However, renewed excitement about the technology spurred a rally and helped the benchmark hit a record high in early June. Other risk assets also endured volatility during the period. US Treasuries enjoyed their best month in a year in February, before yields rose sharply as inflation expectations increased. Oil prices shot up above US$100 per barrel as the US/Iran conflict intensified, before falling back as the two sides moved towards an initial peace deal. Meanwhile, the US dollar strengthened as it benefited from the geopolitical uncertainty and expectations of tighter monetary policy.
UK In the UK, the FTSE All-Share Index strengthened by 7.2% in sterling and 5.8% in US dollar terms, as thawing global trade tensions, peace in the Middle East and some positive corporate results helped the market hit an all-time high. The geopolitical uncertainty caused sharp losses in March, before investor relief over the US/Iran truce spurred a rally. In June, Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced his resignation following the Labour Party’s huge losses in May’s local elections. The Bank of England (BoE) kept its benchmark rate on hold at 3.75% and warned it could tighten borrowing conditions because of the rise in energy prices. However, the chances of a rate hike were reduced later in the period as oil prices dropped sharply. Economic data was mixed. GDP expanded by 0.6% over the first quarter, up from 0.1% growth in the previous quarter. Consumer price rises cooled to 2.8% year on year in both April and May from 3.0% in January. Both consumer and business confidence slumped, largely because of the conflict in the Middle East, and although the unemployment rate declined, it remained at a relatively high level. Sterling weakened against the US dollar, given the domestic political uncertainty and differing monetary policy expectations between the UK and the US.
Europe The FTSE W Europe ex UK Index increased by 11.8% in euro and 8.9% in US dollar terms, buoyed by renewed interest in AI, a decline in trade tensions with the US, and as
falling oil prices eased inflationary and economic pressures later in the period. The gains drove the benchmark to a record high in February. A US plan to take over Greenland – which was subsequently dropped – caused volatility in January, while markets sold off in March due to fears that the energy shock could push Europe’s economy into a recession. The benchmark then recovered most of its losses as both the US and Iran moved closer to an initial peace deal, ending the period not far from its highest-ever level. The European Central Bank (ECB) turned increasingly hawkish, raising its key deposit rate by 25 basis points (bps) to 2.25% in June. The change in the ECB’s tone came as eurozone annual inflation accelerated to a two-and-a-half year high of 3.2% in May from 1.7% in January, largely due to the conflict in the Middle East. The geopolitical hostilities also impacted the eurozone economy, which shrank by 0.2% over the first quarter, following 0.2% growth in the fourth quarter of 2025. The euro weakened against both sterling and the US dollar during the period.
US In the US, the S&P 500 Index gained 10.2% in US dollar terms, as it benefited from reduced trade hostilities, positive corporate results and relief over a US/Iran ceasefire. The gains unwound all of the losses from March’s conflict induced sell-off. Fresh optimism about AI, which helped to lift the S&P 500 Index to a record high in early June, offset losses earlier in the period, when uncertainty about the high level of technology companies’ capital expenditure and the threat of disruption by AI unnerved investors. The US Federal Reserve (Fed) kept interest rates on hold at 3.75%, although new Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh suggested in June that it could tighten monetary policy this year to combat inflation. Consumer prices rose to a three-year high of 4.2% in May on an annual basis, compared with 2.4% in January, mostly due to the impact of the US/Iran conflict. Nevertheless, the economy was largely resilient. GDP expanded by an annualised 2.1% in the first quarter of 2026, up from 0.5% growth in the previous quarter, while non-farm payroll data was better than anticipated in most months. The US dollar gained against a basket of major currencies, as the geopolitical uncertainty boosted its perceived status as a safe haven, and given expectations that the Fed will raise interest rates.
Japan In Japan, the TOPIX grew by 18.6% in yen and 14.3% in US dollar terms, due to economic optimism, some favourable corporate results, move towards peace in the Middle East, reduced trade uncertainty and excitement about AI. Stocks rallied after Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi won a landslide victory in February’s general election, with investors cheering her pro-growth economic plans. The gains during the period offset earlier fears of an AI bubble and March’s sell-off. The Bank of Japan (BoJ) continued its gradual move away from its ultra-loose monetary policy, raising interest rates by 25bps to a 30-year high of 1.0% in June and indicating that further increases could follow. The tighter borrowing conditions came despite a slowdown in

the annual core consumer price index, which excludes fresh food prices, from 2.0% in January to 1.4% in both April and May. The economy’s performance was positive, as growth picked up to an annualised 1.8% in the first quarter from 0.7% in the previous quarter. The yen weakened against the US dollar, hitting a 40-year low in late June as a result of the strength of the US currency and uncertainty about the government’s fiscal position.
Asia In Asia, the MSCI AC Asia Pacific ex Japan Index advanced 24.1% in US dollar terms due to positive sentiment towards AI, better global trade relations and optimism about the truce in the Middle East. South Korea was the standout performer as gains in technology stocks and better-than forecast economic growth in the first quarter drove local benchmark the KOSPI to an all-time high. Taiwanese shares rose very strongly for similar reasons, with local benchmark the TAIEX also reaching a record peak. Indonesian equities slumped as index provider MSCI raised corporate governance and transparency concerns, while government spending plans, interest rate hikes and commodity export curbs also hurt sentiment. Chinese stocks weakened due to worries about the economy, although first-quarter GDP expansion was better than expected. In developed Asian markets, Australia and Singapore performed positively as the local benchmarks in both countries hit record peaks. Australia’s performance was more muted later in the period as the country’s central bank raised interest rates because of rising inflation.
Emerging markets The MSCI Emerging Markets Index rallied by 24.0% in US dollar terms amid optimism about AI, the US/Iran ceasefire and as investors diversified away from US assets. Many emerging market indices reached their highest-ever levels, including those in Brazil, South Africa and Turkey. Brazilian stocks increased as they benefited from economic optimism and looser monetary policy, although a corruption scandal before a general election later this year and US warnings that it could impose new tariffs against the country dampened sentiment. Turkey’s market performed positively, supported by interest from foreign equity investors and a rate cut early in the period, while a pick-up in inflation caused some jitters. Indian shares declined as elevated energy prices clouded the economic outlook. Tepid earnings growth and a lack of exposure to the AI theme also reduced foreign investor interest in the market. South African equities initially rose but reversed course as declines in precious metals prices hurt mining stocks, while the country’s central bank raised interest rates in May to help tame inflation.
Fixed income and commodities In fixed income, the JPM Global Government Bond Index declined by 1.1% in US dollar terms as yields on core government bond markets – including the US, UK, Germany and Japan – rose (prices fell, reflecting their inverse relationship). US Treasuries enjoyed their best month in a year in February, when the benchmark 10-year yield fell to its lowest level since late 2024. However, the yield rose
sharply in March, hitting its highest level since mid-2025 as increased inflation forecasts reduced the chances of interest rate cuts. The UK 10-year gilt yield soared above 5% in May due to political uncertainty and investor anxiety about inflationary pressures. The yield on 10-year Japanese government bonds surged due to expectations that the BoJ will continue to tighten monetary policy and amid concerns about rising government borrowing. Corporate bonds, as measured by the Bloomberg Global Aggregate Corporate Bond Index, outperformed sovereign issues as risk sentiment improved overall.
In commodity markets, oil prices surged as the conflict in the Middle East severely disrupted oil and gas supplies, driving global oil benchmarks West Texas Intermediate and Brent Crude above US$100 per barrel. However, prices gave up most of these gains as the US and Iran implemented a ceasefire and then agreed an initial peace deal. Output increases by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies also weighed on the market. The spot gold price leapt to a record peak in January as trade and geopolitical uncertainty increased demand for perceived safe-haven investments, although prices were lower overall as some of these concerns eased. The copper price rallied to an all-time high in June, spurred by strong buying in China, fears of a supply shortfall and possible US tariffs.

The Fund invests 35%-70% of its assets in shares (equities), and 30%-65% of its assets in fixed income (debt) securities, loans or cash. Holdings in cash may result from profits due to share class hedging against the base currency, which shall only be held on a temporary basis until such holding is reinvested. At least 80% of its assets are invested in US Companies and US Issuers. The aggregate amount of the Fund which may be invested in securities traded on the developing markets is 10%. Of the 30%-65% portion of the Fund’s assets that are invested in fixed income (debt) securities, loans or cash, up to 35% of that portion of the assets may be rated below investment grade.
The Fund may also invest in other assets including companies and bonds outside the US, cash and money market instruments.
The Sub-Investment Advisers may use derivatives (complex financial instruments) to reduce risk, to manage the Fund more efficiently, or to generate additional capital or income for the Fund.
The Fund is actively managed with reference to the `Balanced´ Index (60% S&P 500 / 40% Bloomberg US Aggregate Bond), which is broadly representative of the companies and bonds in which it may invest, as this forms the basis of the Fund's performance target. The Sub Investment Advisers have a high degree of freedom to choose individual investments for the Fund.
Fund Overview
Jeremiah Buckley, Greg Wilensky and Michael Keough , portfolio managers
For the period ended 30 June 2026, the H2 USD share class returned 3.77% (Net) and 4.22% (Gross) compared with 6.45% for the Fund’s benchmark, the Balanced Index and 7.23% for its performance target above. The Balanced Index is an internally calculated and blended benchmark of the 60% S&P 500 Index and the 40% Bloomberg US Aggregate Bond Index. The S&P 500 Index returned 10.21%, while the Bloomberg US Aggregate Bond Index returned 0.62%.
We entered the period with approximately 64.3% held in equities and 35.7% in fixed income. We trimmed some equity exposure late in the period due to price appreciation,
ending with an overweight allocation of 65.1% equities and 34.9% bonds versus the Balanced Index.
Asset allocation benefited relative performance, with an overweight exposure to equities versus the Balanced Index and corresponding underweight position in fixed income aiding results as equities outgained bonds. Security selection among fixed income asset classes was additive while security selection within the equity allocation detracted.
The equity allocation underperformed the S&P 500 Index. Stock selection in the healthcare and information technology sectors hurt relative performance, while stock selection in the consumer staples and industrials sectors contributed.
Microsoft was among the top relative detractors. The company faced pressure from two broad market concerns. Firstly, an acceleration of capital expenditure by large-scale data centre operators raised questions about its long-term profit margins. Secondly, as a major application software provider, the company faced potential disruption to its software businesses from artificial intelligence (AI).
Zoetis was another top relative detractor. The animal health company has faced pressure as the pet care market has normalised following the Covid-19-era spike in ownership and veterinary visits. Slower market growth, competitive launches in key treatment areas and a soft debut for a new therapy have weighed on its results.
Two semiconductor capital equipment makers were among top contributors to relative performance. Lam Research and KLA have benefited from rising demand from semiconductor customers as they have expanded capacity. Wafer fabrication equipment spending estimates were revised sharply higher during the period, which reflected growing confidence in AI-driven demand for advanced chipmaking tools.
The fixed income allocation outperformed the Bloomberg US Aggregate Bond Index. The key drivers of this outperformance were sector allocation and security selection decisions – specifically, our diversified overweight exposure to credit spread risk and corresponding underweight allocation to US Treasuries. Notably, an exposure to high yield corporates was a large contributor, as was security selection among investment grade corporates.

Fund Overview (continued) Our yield curve positioning detracted. Against a backdrop of heightened rate sensitivity, an overweight position in the front end of the yield curve hurt performance as short term yields rose. Later in the period, we trimmed duration (interest rate sensitivity) to a modest underweight and reduced the size of our positioning for a steepening of the yield curve, although this was not enough to prevent some negative impact of a flatter curve as the spread between 10year and two-year Treasuries narrowed.

1 As the share class launched during the period, an estimated Total Expense Ratio is disclosed for the period end. The H6m USD share class was launched during the prior period; therefore, an estimated Total Expense Ratio is disclosed as at period end. As the share class launched in the last 12 months an estimated Total Expense Ratio is disclosed as at the period end Due to the small size of the A5m HCNH share class, the expenses charged may be lower than rates disclosed in the prospectus. Therefore, the reported Total Expense Ratio (TER) is not indicative of future expenses expected as the share classes grow in size. Please refer to the prospectus for the share classes charges.
