    "abstract": "We report the first experimental observations of two-photon emission from\nsemiconductors, to the best of our knowledge, and develop a corresponding\ntheory for the room-temperature process. Spontaneous two-photon emission is\ndemonstrated in optically-pumped bulk GaAs and in electrically-driven\nGaInP/AlGaInP quantum wells. Singly-stimulated two-photon emission measurements\ndemonstrate the theoretically predicted two-photon optical gain in\nsemiconductors - a necessary ingredient for any realizations of future\ntwo-photon semiconductor lasers. Photon-coincidence experiment validates the\nsimultaneity of the electrically-driven GaInP/AlGaInP two-photon emission,\nlimited only by detector\u0027s temporal resolution.",
